Mawa Filled Fried Modak

 

Ingredients (for 18-20 modak)

For filling

  • Mawa 200 grams

  • Sugar 150 grams (powdered)

  • ¼ tsp cardamom powder

  • 1 tsp almonds chopped

  • 1 tsp pistachios chopped

 

For outer part

  • 2 cup All purpose flour  (maida)

  • ¼ cup semolina (fine sooji)

  • ½ cup refind oil or ghee

  • Oil for deep frying

 

 

Method (How to make fried modak)

 

For outer part

  • Mix maida and sooji  in big bowl all oil or ghee and mix well add water and knead soft dough. Cover with wet cloth and keep aside for 15 minutes.

 

For filling

  • Fry mawa in a heavy wok till light brown and keep it for cool down completely. 

  • Mix sugar and dry fruits and cardamom powder.

  • Make lemon size ball with dough. Roll it using a rolling pin into 4 inch diameter circle.

  • Keep the edges little thinner than the center part. Put some stuffing in the center.

  • Apply some water or milk to the edges with pastry brush or with your fingertips.

  • Now take it into your palm.

  • Make  eight to ten pleats with fingers, gather them together to form a bundle and seal the edges at the top.

  • Drain into an absorbent paper and store in airtight containers when completely cooled.
